Start with Keyword Research
Unfortunately, the keywords do not run out of thin air or come to us in a vision. More than that, you cannot assume that people know which keywords people use for search and what ranking you need. This is why you should always start with keyword research.
There is a lot of information on how to do keyword research successfully, but I will outline some of my favorite steps and best practices.
What page is the rank for?
I am not the first portent to recommend starting keyword research by looking at what you have already ranked. I like to go directly to Google Search Console (GSC) as soon as I get my hands on it. Despite the evidence that the Search Console data is quite unreliable, it comes directly from the search giant, so we cannot ignore it.
What to look for in rank tracking
You’ve done your keyword research, signed up for a fixed term to target landing pages, a monthly subscription to the tool of your choice … so what now? Should you sweat every movement in the ranking, no matter how small? (No) Should you be concerned if all keywords rank for 50 positions on a single page? (Maybe.)
The easiest way to change your rank is to establish peace of mind for your site (s). For example, STAT allows you to create custom alerts based on the status quo. My most commonly used alert is “if the number of keywords in the top-ten falls by 5%”. The difference between the first and second page results is significant.
How many keywords per page for SEO?
After choosing the best combination of keywords, the next question that most likely comes to mind is “how many times should those keywords be used per page?” Although it is mindless to use keyword-stuffing, you should feel free to use enough related keywords to help your website visitors make sense of your content.
In this current time and state of the art, keeping in mind the new algorithms employed by search engines, keyword density alone may not be your best metric for looking at your SEO effectiveness. Search engines are becoming smarter, and are now more focused on the purpose or intent of the keywords used, rather than the number used per page. Plan to have the right number of keywords in your content that will serve the specific purpose and intention of your page. You do not try to match or surpass what your competitors see. The ultimate goal of SEO is conversion, and both the keyword of your choice and the number that appears on the page should reflect that goal.
The length of your content has a direct impact on how often your keywords appear. If your content represents a landing page or online advertisement intended for direct traffic to your main website, you can limit your word count to around 350 to 500 words, or perhaps 700 if your topic is more broad or Is technical. The large group of keywords includes long tail and short tail types, but also includes seven additional categories that describe the keyword’s function.
The short-term keyword type can also be referred to as a fresh keyword. This reflects the fact that the subject, object, or service has recently become hypnotized and is a trending subject. A good example of a short-term keyword is the title of a film that is either just released or is receiving a great deal of publicity and publicity already released. A short-term keyword may do well while the topic or subject is trending, but you may see a sharp drop in site visits and rankings after promotion and attention. However, this type of keyword can be an effective way to generate new traffic to your site based on the temporary attention being paid to a popular or pending topic.
The long term keyword is also called an evergreen keyword because, like botanical meaning, the subject is consistently fresh and perennial. If the site is not a landslide source, you can expect continuity from at least one long-term keyword. Many evergreen keywords indicate content that is more educational or informative, even if it aims to promote a product or service.
Product-defined keywords are highly specific. They represent what a person will use to search for a product when they are ready to make a purchase and have an idea of what they want. When you are creating product-defined keywords, use a long-tail type that clearly defines the specific product or service you provide.
How many meta keywords are there for SEO?
Meta keywords are used in the section of HTML code of a web page. This part of the code includes the title, meta description tag, and meta keywords tag. Putting one or more of your keywords in these three tags can help you achieve the purpose of increasing your content. Getting high rankings from Google, however, also requires you to focus on the quality and relevance of your content.
Adding keywords to the section of a page’s HTML code was once a way that some developers would hide keywords that didn’t actually appear when the content of the page was viewed. The way these hidden keywords can be viewed will be to view the HTML code of the page, which can be done by keystroke combination of Ctrl + U. Using hidden keywords that do not appear on the web page is not considered good practice. Main search engines like Google will now ignore keywords hidden in HTML that do not even appear in the content of the web page. There are two other sections of HTML that can use keyword placement. One area is the meta description, which displays a very brief summary of the content of your page in search engine results. It is limited to a display of approximately 160 characters, including spaces, so the text and the use of one or more keywords here is worth careful consideration. Another section is the title tag, which has an even greater border; It only displays about 60 characters and space in the title bar of your page.
So, how many keywords should you target?
The exact number will depend on your budget and your time frame for results. For most small businesses it is recommended to target 5 keywords (each with a monthly search volume of 100+) to get started. For some businesses, this may not seem like much, but targeting 5 keywords does not mean that your website will rank for only 5 keywords and get traffic from 5 keywords.
